Bucket List Item 4 - Healthy and Happy and Achey
I joined a gym.
Counting back it's probably Number 6?
Even though getting myself into better shape physically and mentally is a top priority in my Bucket List, I didn't really plan to do a long blog post - silly but I didn't want to jinx it!
Also someone said to me once sarcastically 'it doesn't count if it's not on social media'. At that time I had been Instagram-ming another attempt at a healthier diet. Since then posting about things knocked my confidence.
However I was doing it thinking it would keep me motivated. Although after a while I realised I was putting a lot of unecessary pressure on myself and decided to stop.
Aaaaaaaand things went to pot. For various reasons.
I weighed myself a couple of months ago and I was officially the heaviest I've ever been - by a very depressing long shot.
And I can feel it in my body I have put more weight on still.
So I have decided not to weigh myself. Or measure. No numbers, no overthinking.
Just more exercise, better food choices and a more positive mindset.

Baby steps.
The first thing I think of when I want to start to work on being healthier. Small steps; not too much pressure and small achievable tasks.
So I sent a message to a local gym.
Then went to meet one of the trainers. After a quick chat I was all signed up.

Money paid - deal done.
So I decided to stay for the rest of the hour. Nothing strenuous - time on the cross trainer - which I LOVE. Although a big part of the workout is trying to clamber on to one of the machines themselves ...
Then a few rounds on some weights - trying to act like I knew what I was doing.
Before some yoga, which thanks to my university degree I did know what I was doing. 3 years well spent ...

Fast forward to tonight - and I've bought Ben along too!! I was supposed to have my first PT session - just once a month as you know, money 😑. Unfortunately the guy got a flat tyre on the way so had to cancel.
Hey ho - We were there anyway, so once Ben was signed up we mooched around the machines. Just as we were finishing up the lovely lady who helped sign Ben up asked if we wanted to join in on a circuits group.
Circuits.
Also known as horrific.
I HATED them at school. Apart from the bleep test and condescending teachers, it was the worst thing about PE.
Leaving school meant many things, including never doing circuits again.
Ever. Never.
...
I said yes.
Stupid. And silly.
BUT I ONLY WENT AND DID IT!!!!!
2 different types of weights.
Boxing.
Rope work thing.
Sit ups with medicine ball.
Squats with barbell.
Ball squats.
Weighted bag throw.
Medicine ball throw (10kg).
Sit ups.
All with either 50 squats/lunges/high knees/jumping jacks/mountain climbers in between. And if you finished early a squat hold to keep you going until everyone was done
I mean - it's a bit ridiculous isn't it?
My feet think so. I'm sure my other joints will catch up by morning.
But 50 squats?? The most I used to do was 20 with intervals.
I found myself at 25 and paused. Next thing I know the trainer is next to me, joining in and shouting a countdown.
For a few seconds I hated her!! But I got to 42 then realised I was doing it. Not well, probably, but I was doing it!
I got to 50. Mahoosive accomplishment for me and I nearly burst into tears.
However no time for that as that was only the beginning of the circuits!
Somehow, I now am apparently a regular for the classes. I don't seem to have much choice!
How things change.
Trampoline fitness Thursday night.
Bring it on.
